FAQs – Landscape Rock Shop

Question 1

What is the minimum order quantity?

Accepted Answer

Our minimum order is 1 cubic yard. Most residential projects require between 1 and 3 yards. If you're unsure how much you need, use the coverage guide on each product page or give us a call.

Question 2

How do I place an order?

Accepted Answer

Browse our shop, select your material and size, choose your quantity, and add it to your cart. When you're ready, proceed to checkout to enter your delivery details and payment information.

Question 3

Can I order multiple products in one delivery?

Accepted Answer

Yes and No.
Yes — only for Landscape Fabric and Staples, they can be added to bulk material orders.
No — for bulk materials, each rock or mulch product is unique and cannot be separated once loaded on the truck. Please place a separate order for each rock or mulch product you need.

Question 4

What payment methods do you accept?

Accepted Answer

We accept all major credit and debit cards through our secure checkout.

Question 5

Can I change or cancel my order after placing it?

Accepted Answer

Please call us as soon as possible if you need to make changes. We'll do our best to accommodate adjustments before your delivery is scheduled. If we do not hear from you an hour before your scheduled time window, we will assume your delivery is to proceed as ordered. A 10% Restocking Fee may be charged for deliveries that are canceled within an hour before and during your scheduled delivery time window.

Question 6

What areas do you deliver to?

Accepted Answer

We deliver throughout central Iowa including Polk, Dallas, Warren, Boone, Jasper, Madison, Marion, Marshall, and Story counties. Use the zip code checker on our Delivery page to confirm your address.

Question 7

How long does delivery take?

Accepted Answer

Most orders are delivered within 1-3 business days. You can request a preferred delivery date and time window at checkout, and we'll confirm by phone.

Question 8

What days do you deliver?

Accepted Answer

We deliver Monday through Saturday. Deliveries are available in three time windows: 8-11 AM, 11 AM-2 PM, and 2-5 PM.

Question 9

Where will the material be dropped off?

Accepted Answer

Material is dumped at the location you specify at checkout — driveway, side yard, backyard, etc, as long as the truck can safely reach it. The driveway is the most common spot. While we try to aim for one side of the driveway when asked, the pile can spill over onto the other side while dumping. Also a dump truck needs roughly ten feet of width and fourteen feet of overhead clearance, so low branches and tight gates are the usual obstacles. Please make sure the drop-off area is accessible and clear of obstacles before your delivery arrives. If you are unsure, leave a note at checkout and we will call before delivery. Drop-off location, obstacle clearance, and safety considerations will be decided at the discretion of our delivery team.

Question 10

How much space does a pile take up?

Accepted Answer

When dumped from a truck, material spreads out into a low, wide mound — not a neat cube. A 1 cubic yard delivery typically forms a pile roughly 5-6 feet wide and 2-3 feet tall at the center. A 3 cubic yard delivery will spread to approximately 8-10 feet wide and 3-4 feet tall. The exact shape depends on the material — rock tends to stack steeper, while mulch spreads flatter. Plan for enough open space around the drop-off area so the pile does not block a garage door, spill into the street, or crowd a fence.

Question 11

Is there a delivery fee?

Accepted Answer

Delivery fees are calculated at checkout based on your location. You'll see the exact fee before you complete your order. If a delivery fee isn't calculated at checkout, don't worry, give us a call and we can figure out the correct fee for your location.

Question 12

What if I need more than 6 cubic yards?

Accepted Answer

For orders larger than 6 cubic yards, please call us directly at (515) 525-3623 and we'll work out the details with you.

Question 13

Can the weather affect my delivery?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Heavy rain or any inclement weather can make it unsafe to operate a loaded dump truck. Deliveries usually go ahead, but may need to be rescheduled. Wet mulch is heavier but otherwise fine to deliver. Mulch or rock becoming wet from rain does not hurt either material. We also may reschedule if conditions would damage your property or make the drop unsafe, and will call you rather than just not showing up. If severe weather is expected on your delivery day, we may contact you to reschedule. We appreciate your flexibility — safety comes first for our drivers and your property.

Question 14

Will the delivery truck damage my driveway?

Accepted Answer

While loaded delivery trucks are heavy, standard concrete and asphalt driveways handle them routinely. However, new concrete (less than a year old), freshly sealed asphalt, and decorative pavers can mark or crack. While we take every precaution, we cannot guarantee that a loaded dump truck will not cause damage to older, thinner, or already-compromised driveways. If you have concerns, let us know at checkout and we can discuss alternatives such as placing the material at the end of the driveway, at the curb, or on the street where permitted.

Question 15

How much material do I need?

Accepted Answer

As a general rule, 1 cubic yard of rock covers approximately 100 square feet at 2 inches deep. Mulch covers approximately 100 square feet at 3 inches deep, or 160 square feet at 2 inches deep. Each product page includes a specific coverage guide. All coverages are approximate and can vary depending on project area and placement.

Question 16

What's the difference between the rock sizes?

Accepted Answer

Smaller sizes like 3/4" are great for pathways, drainage, and tight spaces. Larger sizes like 1-1/2"-2" work well for decorative beds and borders. Cobblestone (4"-8") is ideal for edging, accent features, and drainage beds. Size ranges are approximate and are used for general labeling. Actual size range may vary.

Question 17

Do you sell mulch by the cubic yard?

Accepted Answer

Yes — all mulch products are sold by the cubic yard, just like our rock products. We carry Hardwood, Cedar, Brown, Black, and Red mulch.

Question 18

Will the color of the rock or mulch fade over time?

Accepted Answer

Natural rock colors are very stable and won't fade significantly. Dyed mulch (Black, Red, Brown) may fade over one to two seasons with sun and rain exposure and can be refreshed with a new top layer.

Question 19

Do you offer bulk pricing for contractors or landscapers?

Accepted Answer

Yes — we work with landscaping professionals and contractors regularly. Call us at (515) 525-3623 to discuss volume pricing and scheduling.

Question 20

How do I contact you?

Accepted Answer

You can reach us by phone at (515) 525-3623 or through the contact form on our Contact page. We're happy to help with product recommendations, coverage questions, or anything else.
